Photo booth without a host: does it really work?
Hesitating to rent a photo booth because you don’t want an extra host to deal with? We get it. After more than 1,000 events, here is what we have learned.
The short answer: yes, it works. And often better than with a host.
Why do without a host?
Three main reasons:
Price. A photo booth with a host costs between €500 and €1,000 for 3-4 hours. Without a host, prices start at €129, delivery included, for the whole day. The host often accounts for half the budget.
Freedom. With a host, you get a 3-4 hour slot. Without one, you switch it on when you like and off when you like. From the reception to the last dance, at no extra cost.
Atmosphere. Our customers often tell us: guests let loose more when there is no stranger standing next to the booth. Silly faces, ridiculous poses, in-jokes between friends: that is what makes the best photos.
How it works in practice
You receive a parcel
Your Badabooth arrives 1 to 2 days before your event, by UPS with tracking. In the box: the booth, the legs, the printer with the paper already loaded, and a quick-start guide.
You set it up in 5 minutes
No tools, no configuration. You slot the legs together, plug it in and switch it on. That’s it. We also send you a video tutorial before the event so you can feel relaxed.
Your guests take care of themselves
The touchscreen shows everything. Guests tap, pose and collect their printed photo in 10 seconds. Nobody has ever needed an explanation: as soon as one guest tries it, everyone follows.
No Wi-Fi needed. The booth and the printer communicate directly with each other. Whether you are in a château, a barn or a garden, it works.
You send everything back
After the event, you put everything back in the box, stick on the (prepaid) return label and drop it off at a UPS point. 10 minutes max.

The real figures
After more than 1,000 events:
- 92% of guests use the photo booth at least once
- On average, 200 to 400 photos are taken per evening
- Guests come back 2 to 3 times during the event
- Zero events where nobody could work out how to use the booth
With or without a host: the real comparison
| With a host | Without a host | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | €500 to €1,000 | €129 to €359 |
| Duration | 3-4h (fixed slot) | Unlimited |
| Setup | The host handles it | You, in 5 min |
| Wi-Fi required | Often | No |
| Coordination | Timings, access, parking, meals… | None |
| Extra hours | €50-100/h | €0 |
| Photo quality | Identical | Identical |
When a host is genuinely useful
Let’s be honest, there are some cases:
- Corporate events of 200+ people that need active engagement
- Trade shows where the host also collects leads
- A very elderly audience who might need assistance
For a wedding, a birthday, a party with friends, a christening or a hen party: a self-service photo booth is more than enough.
What to check before you rent
Not all “no host” photo booths are equal. Here are the questions to ask:
- Is Wi-Fi mandatory? If so, be careful: many venues have no reliable connection
- How long does setup take? If it is more than 10 minutes, it is not true Plug & Play
- Is the return included? Some advertise a low price but the return is at your expense
- Is the personalised frame free? With many competitors, it costs €30 to €80 extra
- Is there support on the day? Without a host on site, you need to be able to call someone if necessary

Frequently asked questions
Can guests use the photo booth without any explanation? Yes. The screen shows everything. In practice, all it takes is one guest trying it for everyone else to follow.
What if something doesn’t work? Call us. Our support team is available 7 days a week. In 95% of cases, a simple restart does the trick.
Is it suitable for a wedding? It is our most common event. The photo booth runs from the reception to the end of the evening, without any intervention.
Can it be used outdoors? Yes, as long as you have a power socket and avoid rain and direct sunlight on the screen.
How long does the paper last? 50 photos (50 printed photos package), 150 (150 fast photos package) or 400 (400-photo large booth package). If you run out of paper, refills are available.
