A photo booth at the school fair
Hook-a-duck, tin can alley, cake stall… what if this year the school fair had a stand the children fight over and that raises money for the school cooperative (the class fund)? The photo booth ticks both boxes: it is the most photographed attraction of the day, and the prints can be sold to benefit the school. Here is how to organise it.
Why it works at a school fair
- Children love it: silly faces with friends, a photo with the teacher, a souvenir of the class heading off to secondary school
- So do parents: a real printed photo of their children at the fair is hard to turn down
- No volunteer tied up all day: the booth runs on its own, with a touchscreen and countdown. The children manage by themselves and an adult keeps an eye from a distance
- At children’s height: the booth’s stand is adjustable, so you can set it lower and the youngest pupils (CP, age 6) see themselves on screen just like the older ones
The idea that changes everything: a photo stand for the school
The hire includes a photo quota. Sell the prints at the stand, like raffle tickets, and the difference goes to the cooperative:
| Package | Hire | Photos included | Resold at €2 | Potential gain |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 printed photos | €129 | 50 | €100 | small fair format |
| 150 fast photos | €244 | 150 | €300 | +€56 for the school |
| Large booth, 400 photos | €359 | 400 | €800 | +€441 for the school |
At a busy school fair, the photo booth pays for itself and becomes one of the most profitable stands, while leaving every family with a keepsake.
The practical side
Set-up in 5 minutes. The booth arrives by parcel 1 to 2 days before, assembles without tools and plugs into a standard socket (an extension lead is enough in the playground).
No Wi-Fi. No network needed: the booth works entirely offline, under the playground shelter or at the far end of the playground. (Why it matters →)
Outdoors: set it up in the shade (shelter, marquee) so the screen stays readable, and plan a fallback in case of a shower.
Personalised frame: “Jules Ferry School Fair, June 2027”, the school logo, the fair’s colours… it all takes a few minutes in our online editor.
What about children’s image rights?
The photo booth actually makes this simpler: the photos are not published, they are printed on the spot and handed to the families, who take them away themselves. For the digital photos retrieved after the event, the organising association decides how they are used; the simplest option is to share them only with families via the private link. Mention the photo stand in the fair’s information letter, as you would for any stand.
The school fair checklist
- Book the booth 3-4 weeks ahead (June goes fast)
- Prepare the photo frame in the school’s colours
- Plan the spot: in the shade, visible, with a socket nearby
- Set the price per print (€2 works well) and have a cash box ready
- Adjust the stand to children’s height when setting up
