Selfie booth hire: prices and how it works
Selfie booth, photo booth, photo kiosk, selfie box… The names keep multiplying but almost always mean the same thing: a self-service booth with a touchscreen in front of which your guests take their own photos. Here is what you need to know before hiring, and the real prices.
Selfie booth or photo booth: what is the difference?
None, in most cases. “Selfie booth” emphasises the action (you photograph yourself), “photo booth” the function. Both terms cover the same equipment: a touchscreen, a camera, guest-triggered shots and, depending on the model, a printer.
The only real distinction worth knowing (in French, “photomaton” traditionally means the passport-style booth):
| Selfie booth / photo booth | Photomaton (passport booth) | |
|---|---|---|
| Photos | Group shots, wide framing | Individual, ID format |
| Printing | 10×15, photo strips, polaroid | Standard strips |
| Personalisation | Frame in your event’s colours | Limited |
| Use | Weddings, parties, events | Originally for official ID photos |
For an event, what you are looking for can be called either a selfie booth or a photo booth. (Photomaton or photo booth, the details →)
Selfie booth hire prices
At Badabooth, the hire covers your event, with delivery anywhere in France included:
| Package | Price | Printed photos | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 printed photos | €129 | 50 | 10×15 |
| 150 fast photos | €244 | 150 | Multi-format |
| Large booth, 400 photos | €359 | 400 | Multi-format |
There is also a 100% digital package at €99 delivered (€79 if collected in Dijon): no printing, guests get their photos online.
Across the market, prices range from ~€100 (basic booth you collect yourself) to over €800 (booth with an on-site host). The gap comes down to what is included, which leads to the next question.
What makes the price vary
- The number of prints: this is the main factor. Check how many photos are included and the price of refills.
- Delivery: included or extra? Outbound and return?
- Personalisation: is the photo frame in your event’s colours included or charged?
- The host: unnecessary with a well-designed booth. Your guests manage on their own, and it changes the budget completely (why →)
- The connection: some booths require your venue’s Wi-Fi. A booth that works without Wi-Fi spares you nasty surprises on the day.
How to choose
- Count your guests: ~50 photos for 30-50 people, 150 for an average wedding, 400 for large events
- Check what “all-inclusive” means: delivery, personalised frame, return
- Insist on independence: simple set-up (ours: 5 minutes, one power socket) and zero Wi-Fi required
- Look at print quality: dye-sublimation gives photos that do not yellow
